I used to think that mooncakes月饼 were just like the common American fruit cake. The heavy dried out dense cake that just got regifted. Now that I’ve had a chance to try a fresh moon cake I have changed my old opinion. Fresh moon cakes are really tasty.This one in the pic is red bean with a hint of roses. The local bakeries all have their own special gift batches along with restaurants. In the past I had only tasted moon cakes that were made in China and delivered in a metal tin, probably months after they were freshly made. I’ve heard from friends that they have fond memories of their grandmother’s fresh moon cakes and how delicious they were. Now I believe them.
